Spinal Manipulation & Adjustment

Doctor adjusting patient

Chiropractic adjustments, sometimes referred to as spinal manipulations or manual manipulations, use directed, controlled force to help restore motion to a joint whose movement has become restricted.  The restriction may be due to a specific injury, repetitive use of that joint, or even just sleeping in the wrong position!  Regardless of the cause, the goal of the adjustment is restoring proper movement.

Most people think of chiropractic care as a way to treat back pain, and it is.  But chiropractic adjustments are neuromusculoskeletal  treatment - a large word that represents the interconnection between the muscles, joints, and nervous system.  The nervous system in particular affects every aspect of your body and how it functions.  In this way, chiropractic care can help treat or prevent

How Does Spinal Manipulation Work?

There are a myriad of chiropractic adjustment techniques that exist, but at their core, they all do the same thing.  The use low velocity force to restore proper movement to a joint.  This in turn can help reduce irritation and thus inflammation to the joint and surrounding areas.

What to Expect From Your Adjustment Session

Chiropractic spinal manipulation can be performed safely on most individuals of all ages, including newborns. An initial evaluation analyzes your spinal alignment, checking for any imbalances could produce health challenges now or in the future. Kennedy Family Chiropractic will ensure that you are a good candidate for chiropractic adjustment before proceeding.

Don't be alarmed if you hear a popping or cracking sound during your spinal adjustment. This harmless phenomenon occurs when trapped gases escape from within the joints.

If you're ready to boost your health, flexibility, balance, and everyday comfort, Kennedy Family Chiropractic is ready to help you achieve those goals. Contact our clinic (630) 384-9305 to discuss the details of chiropractic spinal manipulation and schedule an initial appointment.
